Leaked Samsung App Wants to Track Everything You Do

Samsung calls the Galaxy S4 your “life companion,” but it could take that idea one step further with its next smartphone release. Newly leaked screenshots from an unnamed Samsung phone showcase an app that creates a virtual diary based on your activity.

The app, which is said to be called Life Times, collects information from other apps and services on your phone including call logs, messages, photos and social networks. It then presents your recent activity in one centralized location, which Samsung appears to be touting as a digital diary. With the tagline “Every time is your episodes,” it’s clear Samsung is attempting to build on the suite of personalized apps it introduced with the Galaxy S4.

Judging by the leaked screenshots, which were exclusively obtained by Sam Mobile, users will be able to choose which services integrate with Life Times. The app is likely to be compatible with Foursquare, Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn since they’re listed in the interface, but we’ll have to wait to hear from Samsung to know for sure.

The Samsung news blog also claims the screenshots were taken on a phone with the model number SM-G900H, which is rumored to be a variant of the Galaxy S5. The website couldn’t confirm that the screens were taken from Samsung’s next flagship, however.

Life Times sounds suspiciously similar to Sony’s LifeLog app, which was unveiled at CES 2014. Sony’s virtual assistant does exactly as its name implies- it obtains data from your phone to create a timeline of your day that you can playback in chronological order. This means that if you snapped a photo on your way to work, it’ll show up on your timeline for that day. Sony’s offering is meant to work with its SmartBand fitness tracker as well, which is expected to cost around $135 when it launches.

The leak also suggests Samsung is making a bigger push to create its own app ecosystem and decrease its reliance on Google. Samsung is expected to make some fairly significant announcements regarding its work with Tizen at next month’s Mobile World Congress, further hinting that a Samsung-branded OS could be in the works.

Next-Gen Google Nexus Smartphone Specs Leaked

Could there be critical specs for Google’s next Nexus-branded smartphone buried in the rows and colums of the chart above? The document’s finder, SammMobile, thinks so. Though the mystery spreadsheet includes key hardware information such as the processor, display size, and storage size of the potentially upcoming device, the bigger news is that, if real, the next Google Nexus smartphone is all but confirmed.

The next Nexus (billed as the GT- I9260 in the spreadsheet) appears to carry several hardware improvements that Android fans will appreciate. The display not’s counted among those changes;  the proposed new Nexus is listed with same 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD screen as the current Nexus. Careful observers will be happy to see a small speed boost in the dual-core A9 CPU though. If the chart is to be believed, the new Nexus will have a CPU clock speed of 1.5 GHz, up from 1.2 GHz on the old model. 

Also progressing in the spec department are the front and back-facing cameras. The Nexus’ shooters rise from 5-megapixels to 8-MP and from 1.3-MP to 1.9-MP respectively. There’s also some big news for storage addicts: the new Nexus is slated to have an SD card slot, an addition that the present-gen device sorely lacks.

In terms of on-board storage, the upcoming Nexus is listed with 16GB, which is  the same as the current model. 

There’s plenty of details missing from this spreadsheet but none so glaring as the phone’s manufacturer. Samsung designed each of the previous Nexus smartphones but in a move that surprised the tech industry, Google worked with ASUS to develop the most recently released Nexus device, the 7-inch Google Nexus tablet.

Motorola, too, makes sense as the designer of the next Google-made Nexus smartphone. The search company purchased that manufacturer’s mobile business last August.

Prices Leaked for 7-inch and 10.1-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 2

If current models of the Samsung Galaxy Tab aren’t doing the trick for you and you’ve been keeping an eye out for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 news, these latest pricing leaks won’t disappoint. Yesterday, Offce Depot outed the cost of the 10.1-inch version of the Galaxy Tab sequel, and today, QVC released the price of the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2.

According to Engadget, Office Depot yesterday posted a Wi-Fi model of the 10-inch Galaxy Tab 2 in their system, listing $399.99 as the full retail price. This puts the device squarely in league with the iPad 2, but unfortunately the retailer also listed the model with a mere 8GB of storage, less than the 16GB and 32GB models that were expected. Still, it’s a good price point for someone unwilling to cross the $500 line for a 10-inch slate.

Meanwhile, Phone Arena noticed that QVC.com has the Galaxy Tab 2 7-inch, 8GB Wi-Fi model listed on their site as $309.96. You can’t quite check out with the tablet on your digital shopping cart just yet — QVC.com instructs you to call customer service when you try — and the device is slated to go on sale by the end of April, anyway. Another off-putting detail is the rather unbalanced pricing. But either way, the tablet is expected to come up to less than $350 on other mainstream retailers.

The official release date for the Galaxy Tab 2 line is still unknown; Samsung purportedly needs more time to tweak the infamous TouchWiz custom UI for Android 4.0. But now at least there are some target figures to aim for in saving your dime, while the waiting game for the devices gets underway.

Leaked: 8 Awesome Features of Windows Phone 8

Since yesterday, leaks on the yet-to-be-released Windows Phone 8 mobile platform — codenamed Apollo — have been spilling across the Internet, and the refresh looks to have a whole darn lot of potential. The details come to us via PocketNow, who supposedly acquired an early copy of a Microsoft video that shows off the different features, and Microsoft blogger Paul Turrott, who has insider connections with the software company. Here, we’ve gathered eight standout features of Windows Phone 8 that are worth knowing about.

Now, Windows Phone 8 will be in the same league as Android and iOS devices, with the ability to sport two to four cores.

Leaked: Take a Peek at ‘London,’ First BlackBerry 10 Smartphone

Want to glimpse the future of BlackBerry? Today, CrackBerry posted a leaked presentation slide that features the first look  at a smartphone running the BlackBerry 10 operating system, an upcoming RIM platform that has been no show all tell for months now.

With RIM’s drastic loss of market share in North America and the corporation’s fresh shifts of power, the beleaguered company could use a round of positive buzz. If something were to deliver such a feat, it’s London, the code-named device pictured in the leaked document.

Though BlackBerry teased London and other upcoming phones in a roadmap presentation earlier this month, concrete details remain scarce. But CrackBerry learned the phone is undergoing tests with a 1.5-GHz dual-core TI OMAP 5 processor. The site also surmises the phone could be sold through carriers with CDMA networks. That would make London a vehicle for Verizon or Sprint here in the U.S., but it is expected the phone will see the light of day in the UK before rising over our shores.

Until then, we can only appreciate what’s teased in the leak. For instance, the all-touch interface that eschews the BlackBerry keyboard in favor of something reminiscent of modern devices from Android, Apple, and Windows Phone. Also the back and front facing cameras, and an interface that anchors some navigation to the bottom of the touchscreen. If we made $10,000 gentleman’s bets, we’d also wager that the edges, top, and bottom of London will feature a soft-touch, rubber material, but it’s much too early to gamble. 

In a fit of mistaken identity, London’s geography was thought to be revealed in a separate leak last year. While that phone was capped at the top and bottom with a steel-ish material and wore sharply tappered edges, today’s feature has more rounded curves and an all black outfit.  

BlackBerry has asked the real London to please stand up on September 2012, so we’ll wait until later to learn more about the true premier BlackBerry 10 phone.
